Where is chloroquine now?

Chloroquine was called ‘the magic bullet’ in its heyday, but resistance issues led to replacement with combination drugs using artemisia annua, or at least that is what was supposed to happen. Chloroquine remained in use in some countries where new studies are seeing value in the old medicine for saving lives. The goals of finding ‘efficient, cheap, and safe’ antimalarial drugs while ensuring efficacious combinations are needed to fight the threat of growing artemisinin resistance.
